I have to say, this year the Unfairground looked the best it ever has! The new Battle bus stage, with 2 1980’s london single decker buses being dragged from the field by cherubs and skeleton horses, really was one of the most dramatic stage settings in the whole of the Naughty corner. Ben Eine’s huge text warned Incurable, Imperfect, Send help! Giles walkers robot’s sold drugs on the path through using the legendary voice of Mac, while auto begger jackpot machines by myself and George Tomlinson declared the punters winners and thanked them for their 50p’s. So many new elements this year that made the unfair experience complete!
We were already in mourning onsite with the loss of one of our true heroes Uncool Dave earlier in the year, to top it all we lost a true friend during the build, Josh Knotty a talented and integral member of the unfairground crew. R.I.P Josh, Dave. Gone but not forgotten.
Dave’s the one you don’t recognise.
George Tomlinson and I built two auto beggers, the principle being that some pinball tat that we got of pinball geoff got us thinking of coin slot fun for the unfairground. We came up with one armed bandits that did nothing but illuminate in lights the fact you were a winner or thanked you for your coins… pointless and unfair i think you will agree.
I will have to thank Ben and ivana who smashed out some topical words and pulled all the stuff together, cheers guys!
and of course Micheal Evis and Bez for making it all happen
Time is ticking down till i am in a field in Pilton at#Glastonburyfestival2016. A few new things for you this year, some oddness with George Tomlinson, bringing you the future of begging… and this years prizes! As we know we have lost a lot of folk this year, so this years prizes are ‘Dead Heros’ You may recognise 3, the one you don’t is our unfairground hero, Uncool Dave! So Roll up Roll up Try your luck in the Unfairest show on Earth. Only a pound a go and every one’s a Winner! (well kind of)
The Uncrew were in full effect for this Battle of the bean-field anniversary. The capri’s turned to cop cars and a giant traveler bus was pulled from the field behind Wango Rileys stage.
The Dotmasters High strikers worked a treat with over 90 ringing the bell and getting their name on the Hall of fame. Site beef was overhauled and a new wack a mole game built mostly by George Tomlinson and the miniature beefwood police training center was painted by myself and Webbo
Dressed the part and ready to be the long arm of the law on the Site Beef, police training center
An unlikely winner of a site warrant card for Beeftown was Dangerous Darren
Of course there were Dotmaster Beef prizes
Bean-field cop cars.
The hammers swung both day and night!
So another year another sideshow! This years new creation is Site Beef! The worlds first meat based 1st person shoot me up! Steak prizes too! This years creation is a collaberative affair between some old faces from behind the scenes, Dotmaster, Webbo and multi media from Italia the one and only Erwin & Carlo. The sideshow is based on an old Rice trailer refitted and beefed up! So if your in the Unfairground at Glastonbury festival this year then pop on over to win exclusive limited edition dotmaster steak prizes!
Amazing punch ups by the one and only Dr zadok!
Well its been a while since the last post, I’ve been down on Worthy Farm for Glastonbury festival. The Unfairground is under new management and the weather and the wind were behind us on this one! Sam haggerty is the new Unfairground manager…LoL… and other than a brief downpour on the thursday all went according to plan. Loads of new stuff went off in the field this year, Strapper from Wreckon inc made these amazing upright cars that defied gravity and gave us something new to put a mark on, cheers Strapper!
We had the new Acid lounge made by the one and only Shaun, hosting Primal Scream on the saturday and Mad professor on the sunday, amazing to get such big names in such a small field! The horridor was a new attraction..i was too scared to visit but those that did were scared for life.
The 3 high strikers were in full effect and with a great team to run them the bells rung all night! Cheers to all who tried and congratulations to those who managed to prove their
metal and ring the bloody bells.
Bez gave it all he could with those who never stacked boxes back in the day. in all a great week in Somerset, cheers to all who came and tried to win and failed! to those that won, count yourself very very lucky!
So they are OFF, the unfairground uncrew in a fleet of sketchy vans and musty trailers head down to their summer pitch at Worth farm. Roll up Roll up, for the strangest crew on earth!
You’ve seen the julian Temple film, you know we don’t read books, now here’s the Tea shirt! Thanks for Jakey for modelling the various site garbs.
So first couple of days on site at Fuji Rock Festival and the site is taking shape. up in the mountains, its hot as hell, but we ain’t complaining. The hospitality is amazing, incredible sushi at squishy’s (i presume its a nick name), and hot geo thermal baths after every days work and i though i was at a festival, feels like a holiday camp! The sideshows are slowly taking shape and the collection of sideshows and attractions are going to work really well together. We even have a group of indian fakirs coming from india to eat light bulbs and generally amaze us with their feats of strength.
Tea time for the crew….none of that green stuff for our crew, someone brought a industrial box of yorkshire tea with them.
So been beavering away, making stuff for Fuji Rock festival and getting the show together for Tokyo on the 2nd of August. The shippers have just taken the canvases, the spray paints ordered and last minute prizes for the high strikers are being made. I wouldn’t of guessed that i would have traveled to japan for the first time with a fire bell and a large rubber mallet in my bags but that’s the life of a traveling showman for you. The above shot is the last frame in of a time lapse that Calum and Saft films helped make to promote the Show, should be posted online soon (hi res version here). Well thats almost it, got the last mad run around picking up the odds and sods for both the High Strikers and the show and then its on the plane, the next post will be from Japan, but here’s a sneak peek at some of the new work for the show in japan.
Tools of the trade with the carrier of choice….lol
Finally all the pieces slotted into place this Thursday as the crew gathered down in Findon to load the mother of all shipping containers with the set for Fuji Rock Festival in late July. In a secret location deep in the woods the finishing touches were put of the Unfairgrounds sideshows which will accompany the Palace of Wonder outside the Festivals walls. The weeks painting finished with the tightest load ever seen, it was touch and go whether it would all fit, but with some pushing and shoving the last bits slotted into place.
