OUTSIDE IN

Arrived and had 24hrs to paint the stuff i was going to show. An all nighter and some of the next day and the wall was hung with minutes to spare. Busy beyond belief, the prizes left over from Glastonbury selling out in minutes. Sold allot of work, funny been working in Stavanger for 6 years now and never really had an product to sell, suppose the folk here have been waiting cos there’s not much left.

Thanks to all who came and supported the event, thanks to all those who bought some work, and thanks to Tore, Randi, Susan, and of course Reed Projects who made it all possible.

you can check out more photographs of the show at the nuart flickr page here

So in Stavanger again, this time for a different reason, Nuart happens later in the year. This time for Reed productions first sale show at Skur 2 in downtown Stavanger (do they have a downtown?) Anyway a great line up for this sales show featuring allot of work from Martyns own collection as well as work by Dolk and myself made especially for the show. Opens the 1st of july and looks to be a busy night. There are a few other events happening over the next two weeks in Bergen and stavanger but will post more as they happen.

Nuart final report

Well this blog has been somewhat short of entries the last couple of weeks, mostly due the amount of work involved in Nuart and the subsequent partying. For those of you that don’t know i am the head of production for Nuart, so not only do i paint in the festival but i solve problems for the artists, fix cherry pickers, gather equipment and generally give the crew a hard time….they love it though 🙂 The weather for the last week of Nuart has been awful, some days saw 50mm of rain and despite this we managed to produce a hell of allot of  large landmark works around the town. Sten & Lex were the worst hit, pasting a 11m by 6m poster then cutting it on the wall is not the easiest thing in driving rain,  although Dolk came in as a easy second, my god it rained. Spent Friday up a cherry picker with Dolk sketching out his piece 12m in the air on the Norwegian coast in a full gale. Had to do the same job the next night as he was painting on water and nothing stuck to the wall. Roa, Blu and Eric il Cane had the best of the weather although they didn’t get off lightly. In the end we succeeded, The crew were amazing, the organisation faultless and the artists persevered through all that Stavanger could throw at them, both on and off the cherry pickers. I can still see Vhils and Joal wide eyed and dancing at the K-bar at the after party of Numusic an hour before their filghts. Allot of fun and allot of work, a good mix.

A blitz spirit developed among the crew and artists during the extended festival with all becoming great friends in the face of adversity. Big love to all involved

So its over for another year, there are still a few loose ends to tie up there are rumors of a book and there is a planned release of the film Eloquent vandals soon to be realeased, shot in 2008 its a backstage look at the festival. stay tuned

Well the weather didn’t hold and now the town resembles the city i remember, but the artists soldier on! Sten and lex are impervious to it all and just toil through the rain, Vhils is hammering away in the drizzle and evol is hiding under bridges. Meanwhile the press are having a field day.

Nuart 2010

Its been the first week in Stavanger for the Nuart Festival this years festivities sees the launch of Nuarts ‘Landmark Series’, a series of huge walls around the Storhaug area in Stavanger. This week has seen Blu and Ericailcane and myself visit town and paint, the other artists on the program will come in September. The weathers been patchy with 4 seasons in one day, most days. After a ladder, scaffold and in the end a cherry picker its at last finished, Now all i have to do is run the production for everyone else…Special thanks to Bardia who helped with logistics and of course the Nuart Crew.
