The Street Art of Penge and Anerley Book for Charity

I’ve been painting with the Penge street art crew for a few years. The area has become for a go to for street artists and street art fans. It’s a project of passion for all those locally involved and those further a field who support and photograph the process and finished works. Finally after a year of disruptions and false starts they have managed to get a paper documentation of the works and artists that have been working there over the last few years. These are available for pre order now here  https://pengestreetart.bigcartel.com/

Available for pre order until the 20th of November with all profits going to St Christopher’s Hospice in Sydenham. Making it a limited edition publication that documents the work done by all over a few short years.

A word from the producers:

Over the last 18 or so months ourselves and our dear friend Street Art Atlas have been working on a project we are super excited to finally be sharing with anyone who cares. We have created a book documenting in photographs and text how our community street art project SprayExhibition20 has blossomed since 2016 making Penge and Anerley the largest open air gallery in London with over 170 artworks up at current.

We would like to offer a massive thank you to Street Art Atlas for documenting our project from day 1 and using so many of her excellent photos in this book, which she also designed and put together superbly. Thank you for all the time and dedication to this project and on this book! Big thank you to Colossive Press for all the editorial advice and help behind the scenes, answering all our questions. A huge thank you to Dotmaster and Irony for the unbelievably generous donations to accompany this book, beyond kind both of you. Lastly thank you to all the artists who have painted for us around SE20 over the last six years,  to everyone who has donated a space to allow the artists to work their magic and everyone who has stopped by to admire the creativity and support this initiative that we couldn’t be prouder of.

So there you have it and you can purchase the book and potentially some special edition artworks exclusive for this project here https://pengestreetart.bigcartel.com/ with all proceeds going to St Christopher’s Hospice in Sydenham.SprayExhibition20 – The Street Art of Penge and Anerley.

Since 2016 Penge and Anerley has become a hub for Street Art in London, with SE20 having hosted over 400 artworks to date. So in acknowledgment of how this project has grown beyond our wildest dreams, we thought it was time to share some of this project with anyone who is interested. SprayExhibition20 – The Street Art of Penge and Anerley is the first publication to showcase the art of Penge and Anerley, covering a selection of work from 110 artists spanning 2016-2020. The book offers a peek behind the scenes and tells the story of how this quiet little corner of London has become one of London’s largest open-air galleries, documented by London Calling Blog and Street Art Atlas.

All proceeds go to St Christopher’s Hospice in Sydenham. Free UK Postage.

Cross The Line

Dotmasters, Ben Eine, Nick Walker and Pez

2B Art & Toys Gallery

Finally a show abroad ! Old time collaborator 2b art gallery are an old head on a new body. I’ve been working with these guys for a decade in different guises. An amazing space to show art, the Portals Nous Grand hotel is a space that we have invaded before, many moons ago.

Check out how we bombed the space before the current hotel was built!

This time its canapés and cans… as the final installation of works from old friends fill the newly designed and built 5 star hotel…oh how times have changed eh!?

This will be the first outing for a full canvas showing for my Stick em up works on canvas. It will be nice to finally show you what they look like in the flesh.

Gaffodills

Each artist is releasing some NFT’s to coincide with the show stay tuned for details

From June 10 – July 31, 2021
2B Gallery is excited to announce its first group exhibition titled “Cross the Line”. From June 10th to and 30th of July 2021, at 2B Art & Toys Gallery, located at the Iberostar Hotel Portals Nous
Grand, Carrer Falconer, 19, 07181 Portals Nous, Illes Balears.
“Cross the Line” group exhibition will feature works of four internationally established artists whose art is intricately linked to the urban environment. In this exhibition, Nick Walker, Ben Eine, Dotmaster, and El Pez invite us to overstep the invisible line that separates the comfort of the established from the inevitable transgression. In making visible both the restrictions and the freedoms of urban culture, they explore how identities and histories are created, transformed, or invented. Through irony, Nick Walker represents criticism, Ben Eine is the master of lettering, Dotmaster is the magician of counterpoint and refined aesthetics, while El Pez presents
new and direct communication with the public. Each one represents their own type of language within urban art, but together they become icons of nonconformity.

Remember when you could fill your bag with assortment of sweets from a row of bins at your local supermarket?

Ours was a Woolworths, it was often a spot where kids honed their shoplifting skills.I suppose since covid they will never return and perhaps a generation will lose a much valued talent.

Over the last 20 years in various shows both in the uk and abroad I’ve often done a pic n mix wall, an assortment of bright A4 ish size works that incorporate loads of small stencils from my odds and sods drawer in the studio. It’s a weird assortment of text, flowers, animals and dead rockstars cut for many one of a kind things, gifts and themed shows.

As prices rise I have always tried to offer something of a bargain in these little one off works. Bright quirky panels, hand painted originals for a pic n mix price of £99There are 54 of these eye candy pieces to choose from each one a unique work. Artist’s Proof

An archive of Dotmasters paper works, spanning over a decade of experiments and test sprays. Whether painted to try out ideas for prints or an exploratory working out of colours for new artworks, these paper works form the initial genesis of my well-known prints, canvas and street works.

Painted on fancy french cotton rag art paper, every test sheet is a work of art in it’s own right, from an unseen archive.

Paper is unforgiving: make a mistake and it’s there forever, especially when you’re using spray paint (there is no eraser for that!). Registration for multiple layered works becomes difficult, masking and set up is key to each sheet.

The quality and price of the paper always makes me treat each work with a caution and care that I don’t often feel with other mediums. Always painted for my own eyes and my archive, these works are a personal playground.

For the show ‘Artist’s Proof’, I’ve picked my favourite pieces from my back catalogue. Never before seen or available for sale, these one-off works have evolved from over a decade of work.

Artist’s Proof is my first show for over a year, the show title is a defiant statement that I am still here, still making. Other works in the show are works made in lockdown, experiments with materials and light.

Lockdown has closed us down, locked us up and, in a large number of cases had us reaching for the bottle.  It’s good to be opening up again.. join us for a socially distanced drink.

Stick em Up “Bunch”

I’ve been working on some new “Stick em Up!” works for a series of upcoming shows, This is by far the most ambitious one to date, 23 stencils and over 40 colours. I started this over a year ago and have been playing with the idea of gaffa taping objects to walls for a couple of years now…Then some loon in Basel Miami, stuck a banana to a wall and sold it for a ridiculous figure, and suddenly everyone was gaffa taping stuff to walls to take the piss. So i shelved the project waiting for the hoo-ha to die down. This is my reply.

Lockdown london Rude Kids show street Studio work

Locked down

Proud to present my lockdown labours in this multi channel broadcast show, event, web thingy. So first was there was Lockdown Magazine, Dot2Dot portraits and a release of the wino boxes now finally some work you can see in the flesh in this site specific Christmas light shop front installation.

In collaboration with Kensington and Chelsea art week as part of their lockdown HIGH STREET WINDOWS. A series of site-specific window installations across Kensington, activating local high streets through imaginative interventions by contemporary artists.

The small boxes displayed in the windows are experiments in materials and light that were made during lockdown. Boxed-in, we have all tried to see the bright side, and these naughty rude kids lights have been my way of bringing some light with these humorous candid acts of indoor disobedience. The entire building is transformed into a giant, glowing light box, blurring the boundaries between inside and outside.

A full explanation of the show as well as a shop to buy it, can be found here Lockdown show.
