East meets West.

Lamberty_Damask_Bag_Web©  There is obviously a lot going on this week, the art world goes nuts in London, piggybacking on the fact that they’ve put up a large tent in regents park… (Before you get too excited it’s not a funfair…but a totally different kind of circus.) So to mark the occasion i’m doing a couple of shows on the same night. Of course this is Art we are talking about so i’m going to have to use that dreaded word ‘Juxtaposition’. There is one East and one West, each the antithesis of the areas they inhabit. “In the West corner weighing in at 655 pounds Lamberty’s Urban & Pop. A suave evening guaranteed, Champagne cocktails, elegant swag and some of the finest Dotmasters High Class Trash, 6pm-9pm Thursday 17th of October. And in the East corner weighing in at £4.50 The White Canvas project, a rooftop celebration of all things aerosol. A great line up, live painting, bar, Dj’s a proper old shindig where you will be able to buy my Mr Potato head Toy edition (unless you want to wait to see if you can find the ones i will street drop in my treasure hunt the week after). So if your Classy check out trash in the West or if your trashy check the show in the East and if your schizophrenic catch them both. Looks like it will be a busy night!

Portobello Film Festival

shit_2_a_blanketsm

I’ve been working on some new surfaces and sub-straights, painting bags on bags and working out some new luxury and necessity brand bags to add to my piles (now that sounds wrong). There’s a few shows coming up the first is those nice guys at the Portobello film festival, This years show features works by myself and Joe Rush, Sickboy, Code FC, Lucy Sparrow, Teddy Baden, Peter Dunne, Solo One, Alex Wreckage, Cosmo, and Red Dog.  This years show’s venue is the wonderful space at the Louise T Blouin Foundation. Then its off to Nuart with a whole new set of works for the streets of Stavanger.

With some works in a group show in Cape Town in early September its a hectic August. Oh yes and i forgot, the High strikers going to Bestival so look out for it there accompanied by the gobbler and the crack heads to add a twisted unfair corner to the festival.

Losing your edge

target

I’ve been sick and tried of losing my scalpels over the years so i’ve come up with the above method for guaranteeing they always have a place on my desk, “The desk target”. its always more fun to put things back where they should be if you can make a game out of it.

Inevitable show blurb

High Class Trash

A show of beautifully hand crafted stencil works that discover the beauty amongst our trash. Photo real renditions of humble bin bags & high class labels painted on a decades worth of bin and skip raiding. Up-cycled objects, grannies cushions, nothing avoids the Dotmasters’ magpie eye. Mixed media assemblages pop off the wall in a faux 3D skid row tableaux. The frames are off, and work spills from the walls like the piles of trash they depict.

The irony of stencilling piles of rubbish is not lost on us. Rubbish, we all do it… leave it out on the street, either once a week or at random times when consumption out strips our storage. For many it’s their only contribution to the public space. We all contribute to this shifting sea of street sculpture with the rhythms of the weekly bin round. Its an ordered chaos, of suddenly unowned & worthless things.

You can tell a lot about an area from its rubbish, the people that live there, what the eat, what they wear. High Class Trash takes it’s inspiration from the galleries location, that particular mix of trash and glamor that make Notting hill so famous.

The first 13 visitors to the show on the 13th of September will be rewarded with a limited hand finished six colour silk screen print, a release of only 13. Sometimes 13 can be a lucky number.

Bag of the day

13th of September at Graffik Gallery, 284 Portobello Road
London ,W10 5TE, 6pm till you can’t take any more rubbish!

High Class Trash, a show of rubbish recently shown in Tokyo contrasts high fashion and refuse, used spray-cans, bottles and paint markers in cast out Selfridges, Hermes and Chanel carrier bags, in an instantly recognizable photo real stencil style that is typical of the Dotmasters work . The pop art parallels are not taken too seriously in these Warhol meets Cheryl Cole modern icons of trash that combine littering and vandalism, giving you two crimes for the price of one.
