Rockaway Park

I’ve been meaning to get up to Rockaway park for ages. I’ve known Mark, the driving force behind it for years. We used to store old stuff from The Unfairground there years ago, but its changed a great deal from those humble beginnings. These days it’s a incredible social centre for alternative alternatives, its hard to explain, best to visit and make your own mind up. The reason for this weekends shenanigans was the Rockaway Part Arts weekend. Art, music, great food, film and eclectic art market. Loads of old faces and a right good laugh.

From right to left, Martin Parr, Dan Rawlings, Me with Rowdy underneath.

First up i painted a new set of billboards Mark has had put up along the entrance way, you need to get that forklift serviced by the sound of it Mark! (lolz)

Painted the old workshop too, making sure to paint around the initial scrap yard sticker on the door which i remembered from back in the day.

Took a few things up with me, it was always going to be blandalised with wallpaper, but for some reason only Mark can explain he plumpt for a swinging monkey…..well wasn’t just him i did haul it up to Temple Cloud thinking it might fit in with the general vibe. The chimp is on a sliding door that rolls back and forth so the monkey swings as you close the door, very apt for the workshop!

What a fun weekend! It was very busy, loads of visitors and a lot of fun. Sunday lunch is amazing, one not to miss! Get your order in early to avoid disappointment, so good ! Bands were great! Company fantastic, i had a ball. Find it here. Check the calendar for events.

Vandal Fest York

I just got back from York working on the show for Vandal Fest organised by Vandals at Work. Vandals At Work is a York-based non-profit community arts organisation with a passion for street art and a belief that art should do more than just hang on walls and look pretty, it should inform, spark conversations and be a call to action. We believe art can be a powerful force for good in our community.

They aim to enrich our city’s cultural landscape by organising exhibitions, auctions, and other events that enable us to raise money for local charities and help support the artists we collaborate with. To date, we’ve worked with more than sixty artists and have donated over £55,000 to three local charities, York Food BankYork Mind and SASH (Youth Homelessness).

Street art returns to the Low Ousegate building in the centre of York. Kindly donated by Mack & Lawler. Our next event opens on 11th July 2025 and will span four storeys of the unoccupied building, featuring the work of an exciting group of world-class street artists alongside a cohort of local artists.

Show opens tonight Friday 11th of July, is open this weekend and the following two weekends.

A whistle stop trip to York to contribute to a very cool show for a good cause in the centre of York. Three floors of cracking large scale wall based works, an immersive experience in a disused office block on the river in central York. A super slick production from a unique crew of volunteers. I had a fun trip, show looks stunning and it’s free to visit for 3 weekends during July. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Vandals at work are working with the team at Tennants Auctioneers again for the fourth year in a row. They will be running an online Vandal Fest auction with works donated by participating artists. If you can’t make it to the show this is your opportunity to acquire artwork by our participating artists, and support SASH. The auction will go live on 18th July and run until 3rd Aug check their site for details

It’s chilly sometimes

‘Tools of the Trade’, ‘Stick em Up!’

Sent some works to Denver for this show at Black Book Gallery. Show opens on the 1st of October and is curated by Ben Eine, its one of the first times i’ve exhibited some of these Tools o the Trade in a gallery as well as the first outing of the latest Trash Bag in the series. Chucked a couple of the new prints it in as well. (more news of that later)

Black Book Gallery is pleased to present It’s Chilly Sometimes, a group exhibition featuring ten contemporary artists from around the world, opening October 1st from 7pm-9pm. Included in the exhibition are the artists: A.CE (UK), Alexander Chappell (UK), Charley Peters (UK), Dotmaster (UK), EINE (UK), HUSH (UK), Laura Benetton (UK), Lucie Flynn (UK), Masagon (JPN) and Nasepop (ARG). Working across various styles—from hypnotic patterns and vintage letterforms to hyper-graphic paintings of cyberspace—these artists each explore modes of modern communication through their signature lens.

It’s Chilly Sometimes juxtaposes a range of artistic perspectives, reflecting degrees of contemporary culture that—when viewed together—allude to our collective experience as a society in constant flux. Vintage aesthetics remixed with ultra modern materials, virtual landscapes rendered with painstakingly realistic detail—these artists are confronting old ways of seeing with new ways of making and vice versa.

Cross The Line

Dotmasters, Ben Eine, Nick Walker and Pez

2B Art & Toys Gallery

Finally a show abroad ! Old time collaborator 2b art gallery are an old head on a new body. I’ve been working with these guys for a decade in different guises. An amazing space to show art, the Portals Nous Grand hotel is a space that we have invaded before, many moons ago.

Check out how we bombed the space before the current hotel was built!

This time its canapés and cans… as the final installation of works from old friends fill the newly designed and built 5 star hotel…oh how times have changed eh!?

This will be the first outing for a full canvas showing for my Stick em up works on canvas. It will be nice to finally show you what they look like in the flesh.

Gaffodills

Each artist is releasing some NFT’s to coincide with the show stay tuned for details

From June 10 – July 31, 2021
2B Gallery is excited to announce its first group exhibition titled “Cross the Line”. From June 10th to and 30th of July 2021, at 2B Art & Toys Gallery, located at the Iberostar Hotel Portals Nous
Grand, Carrer Falconer, 19, 07181 Portals Nous, Illes Balears.
“Cross the Line” group exhibition will feature works of four internationally established artists whose art is intricately linked to the urban environment. In this exhibition, Nick Walker, Ben Eine, Dotmaster, and El Pez invite us to overstep the invisible line that separates the comfort of the established from the inevitable transgression. In making visible both the restrictions and the freedoms of urban culture, they explore how identities and histories are created, transformed, or invented. Through irony, Nick Walker represents criticism, Ben Eine is the master of lettering, Dotmaster is the magician of counterpoint and refined aesthetics, while El Pez presents
new and direct communication with the public. Each one represents their own type of language within urban art, but together they become icons of nonconformity.

LIFT

Over the last few months myself and 2 friends (Tom Mattey and George Tomlinson) have been chatting in various pubs about a photo booth that looks like an elevator, sounds like an elevator and acts like an elevator and produces a photographic souvenir of that experience . At the same time i had been asked to produce an installation for the moniker art fair by Urban Nation. The theme was Brexit and synergy between the themes and object seemed too close to ignore.

The LIFT is a totally new photo booth experience! Appearing like an elevator in the corner of your room…The lift door opens to reveal a life like lift interior, muzak playing. On entering the door slides shut and a lift themed touch screen interface guides you through 4 poses. The last photograph is timed to be taken at the exact moment the floor drops catching all inside in that moment of surprise.

A bonkers new way of capturing the moment. Half ride, half souvenir. An immer- sive journey, a snap of surprise. From entry to exit, it looks like a lift, acts like a lift and plays on your expectations of a lift. Close the door choose your floor, doesn’t matter what you choose we are all getting down!

Cannes Lions 17

Didn’t really know too much about this festival before i was asked to decorate a sea front house for this advertising award brouhaha. Cannes, the perpetual summer luxury conference center location, hosts the major media bands for the Cannes Lions Awards. The beachfront is turned into a media playground with bands, brands and sands. There is not a dry throat in the house.

June is always Glastonbury and the unfairground and leaving site, from a ratty trailer to a rosé fuelled piss up on a beach was quite bloody culture shock..paint in the sun all week.then fly back to return on  the Friday of the festival, back to the unfairground family of freaks, but more of that later…

Cannes is best described through pictures. A big Thanks to Ruby stone Productions for making it all happen, IPG Mediabrands , UM and Initiative as well as Jay Streetplay

It was a funny week, a dream like break from the shouty field on worthy farm. I met a lot of people, thanks to Rita ora, Halle berry and Hannah Bronfman for being such good sports and showing me how a selfie works.

Big Bang

dead_stars_insta

The Westbank Gallery have moved, and their first show in their new space is Big Bang a group show in a really quite cool space, It was the old social centre, so it has a bar in the middle of it, it’s a cool place to see art, or have a drink, or both. There’s a lot of friends in the show and last night was a good chance to catch up, not sure the tequila helped much.

I had other works planned for it, but with the death of Lemmy and Bowie recently i had to mark there passing somehow and the dollar bills seemed a good way to do it, the serial numbers are their birthdays and dates of their deaths.

The shows on for a month, nearest tube is Ladbroke grove, adress is 3-5 Thorpe Close W10 5XL, it’s under the westway.
